The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria’s Kwara State has selected Engr. Kale Kawu as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election. Former Senate President Bukola Saraki announced the decision after party stakeholders and aspirants agreed to a consensus arrangement, avoiding a contested primary. Kawu, a former Director of Projects, Procurement, and Monitoring and Evaluation at the Rural Electrification Agency and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, received 98,998 votes, far ahead of the runner‑up Ladi Hassan’s 2,125.

Kawu pledged to serve Kwara’s citizens without betraying their trust, promising improvements in infrastructure, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, healthcare, and security. The PDP’s move follows the All Progressives Congress’s selection of State House Speaker Yakubu Danladi‑Salihu as its 2027 candidate, setting the stage for a competitive race in the state.

The consensus decision reflects an effort to maintain party unity ahead of the upcoming election, with other aspirants publicly stepping down in support of Kawu.
