Ilorin building collapse kills four family members

A building collapse in the Popo Giwa area of Ilorin, Kwara State, resulted in the deaths of four family members early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 5 a.m. when a section of a multi-storey structure collapsed, trapping eight people.

Emergency responders, including the Kwara State Fire Service and various disaster management agencies, conducted a rescue operation that lasted several hours. Rescuers recovered four deceased individuals, including a mother who was reportedly found shielding her young child. Four other family members, including the father, were rescued alive. One survivor is reported to be in critical condition at the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital.

Authorities noted that the building appeared to be in a dilapidated and structurally unsafe condition prior to the collapse. Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq expressed his condolences and stated that the administration is providing medical care and support to the survivors.
