Kwara State Governor announces infrastructure and pensioner support
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has pledged to provide a permanent secretariat and a dedicated bus for pensioners in the state. During a meeting with the Nigerian Union of Pensioners in Ilorin, the governor addressed concerns regarding rent for their current office, which is held under a Certificate of Temporary Occupancy. He stated he would work with the Head of Service to secure a permanent location and resolve rent issues.
The Commissioner for Finance, Hauwa Nuru, noted that the state is up to date with pension payments, clarifying that some retirees missed payments between 2015 and 2018 due to failing to participate in verification exercises. The union chairman, Mahmud Saidu, acknowledged improvements in administration since 2019, noting the settlement of over N4bn in outstanding salary deductions.
In a separate infrastructure development, Governor AbdulRazaq flagged off the construction of 21 kilometers of new roads, including the Oke-Oyi/Lanwa road and the Oke Ose/Maya Asunlope road. These projects aim to improve connectivity and economic opportunities in the Ilorin East and Moro Local Government Areas. The governor reported that over 650 kilometers of roads have been completed in the state to date.
