Kwara State gubernatorial candidates outline security and environmental agendas
Political candidates in Kwara State have outlined their agendas for future governance, focusing on security, technology, and environmental sustainability.
Zakari Mohammed, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, proposed a technology-driven security strategy. He pledged to utilize drones for aerial surveillance and intelligence gathering to identify criminal enclaves before conducting operations. Mohammed emphasized that while modern tools are essential, security agencies must also be adequately equipped with logistics to dismantle terrorist networks and address the socio-economic hardships that contribute to insecurity.
Meanwhile, Salihu Yakubu Danladi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate and Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, committed to continuing the environmental sustainability policies of the current administration. Speaking at a Clean Life Summit, Danladi promised to prioritize flood and drainage control systems, maintain monthly sanitation exercises, and ensure developmental projects undergo environmental assessments. He also proposed establishing a Youth Environmental Council and a Green Youth Advisory Council to increase youth participation in environmental governance.
