Kwara State launches 8th biennial sports festival in Ilorin
The 8th Kwara State Sports Festival has officially commenced at the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex in Ilorin. The event features athletes from all 16 Local Government Areas competing in 26 different sporting events. The festival, which includes the symbolic lighting of the ‘Torch of Unity’, is scheduled to run until August 29.
Organizers describe the festival as a platform to discover grassroots talent and promote unity across the state’s three senatorial districts. Officials have emphasized the importance of discipline and academic balance for the young participants. The event is also expected to provide an economic boost to the capital city of Ilorin.
This festival follows a period of significant investment in Kwara’s sports infrastructure and management under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. Recent milestones include the renovation of the George Innih Stadium Complex, the settlement of long-standing debts by Kwara United, and the club’s recent victory in the President Federation Cup.
