Kwara State renews commitment to family planning services
The Kwara State Government and the Society for Family Health (SFH) have renewed their commitment to providing quality, affordable, and uninterrupted family planning services across the state. During a strategic coordination meeting in Ilorin, Kwara Commissioner for Health Dr. Amina El-Imam emphasized that family planning is a fundamental component of universal health coverage, maternal and child health, and poverty reduction.
To address challenges such as commodity shortages, misconceptions, and poor access to healthcare, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved funds for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) basket fund. This funding is intended to ensure the procurement and availability of family planning commodities at health facilities.
Dr. El-Imam noted that successful programming requires more than just supplies, highlighting the need for informed communities, competent healthcare providers, reliable data, and strong referral systems to improve maternal and neonatal mortality rates.
