Kwara State ruling houses protest new Obajisun appointment
Traditional ruling houses in Ayedun, located in the Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State, have formally protested the appointment of Prince Jide Abiodun Towoju as the new Obajisun of Ayedun.
In a letter addressed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Omo Owa Royal Family and representatives of the traditional ruling houses claimed the appointment violates custom, tradition, and state law. The petitioners stated that the right to nominate a candidate belongs exclusively to the Royal Houses and the Iwarefa (Kingmakers Council).
According to the ruling houses, they had unanimously nominated Prince Oluyemi Adeyemi Anthony Adetiba from the Ile-Ala Ruling House following traditional rites and consultations. They argue that under the Traditional Rulers and Chieftaincy Law of Kwara State, the Governor is required to act on nominations provided by the ruling houses and kingmakers rather than imposing an outside candidate.
