Kwara State to buy Dangote Refinery shares for female teachers

The Kwara State Government has announced an initiative to purchase shares in the Dangote Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO) for female teachers to promote investment and financial inclusion.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq disclosed the plan during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Ilorin. Under the scheme, the state intends to buy 10,000 shares for ten female teachers in every outstanding public school. The program will also extend to outstanding retired female teachers.

Developed in partnership with the Dangote Foundation, the initiative includes a grant system where the foundation will provide ten additional shares for every ten shares purchased by the state, totaling twenty shares per recipient. The goal is to assist women in transitioning from earning salaries to owning assets.

In addition to the investment plan, the state distributed approximately N120 million in awards to various education stakeholders, including principals, head teachers, and lecturers, to recognize outstanding performance.
