Kwara United and Kano Pillars draw 2-2 in NPFL opener

Kwara United and Kano Pillars played to a 2-2 draw in their opening match of the 2026/2027 Euromatch–NPFL season at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl in Ilorin. Kano Pillars initially took a two-goal lead, including an 11th-minute goal by midfielder Shola Abdulraheem, who scored against his former club, Kwara United.

Kwara United head coach Suleiman Ashifat expressed optimism regarding his team's ability to fight back from two goals down, noting that the performance showed promise for a squad that has undergone significant changes. The team has integrated 16 new players into the roster.

Abdulraheem noted the emotional difficulty of scoring against his former side, describing the situation as a matter of professional responsibility. Despite the comeback by Kwara United, Kano Pillars players remained positive about securing an away point to start the campaign.
