Mozambique issues heat alert for southern provinces
The National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) has issued a yellow alert for the southern provinces of Maputo, Gaza, and Inhambane due to an intense heatwave. Temperatures are forecast to reach up to 39 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, October 27.
The heatwave is attributed to the persistent transport of hot, humid air. Affected areas include the cities of Maputo and Matola, as well as various districts across the three provinces, such as Chókwè, Xai-Xai, and Zavala.
Weather conditions are expected to shift by the end of Tuesday, with forecasts predicting thunderstorms, showers, and gusty winds. This change is anticipated to lead to a sharp decrease in maximum temperatures by Wednesday. Authorities have urged residents to take precautionary safety measures to mitigate the risks associated with the extreme heat.
