KwaZulu-Natal to host election peace summit with political parties
The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government plans to convene a peace summit this month involving political parties and the Electoral Commission (IEC) ahead of the local government elections on November 4.
Premier Thami Ntuli stated the summit aims to promote political tolerance, stability, and proper conduct among parties and volunteers. The initiative follows reports of intimidation and fatal attacks involving councillor candidates and party members in the province. While recent killings have been reported, authorities have not yet confirmed if these incidents were politically motivated.
Ntuli urged political volunteers to avoid verbal or physical confrontations to ensure democracy can proceed without unnecessary conflict. He also called on communities to assist police investigations by providing information, regardless of the victim's political affiliation.
