National Academy of Sciences building hit by Russian drone strike in Kyiv FAST-MOVING

A Russian drone strike hit the National Academy of Sciences building in central Kyiv, causing a major fire and significant structural damage. The attack, which occurred in the Shevchenkivskyi district, resulted in the death of at least one woman and left several others injured, including children. Witnesses reported people attempting to escape the burning building through windows.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko confirmed the strike hit a non-residential building in the city center. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the fire spread through multiple floors and that rescue operations were underway to locate anyone trapped inside. Anatoliy Zagorodny, the director of the Academy, characterized the strike as an “attack on science” and “terrorism.”

The Academy strike was part of a broader wave of Russian aerial attacks across Ukraine. Other targets included a pharmaceutical company and gas stations in Kyiv, a business center in Dnipro, and various civilian and communication infrastructures in other regions. In Dnipro, the strikes reportedly caused additional casualties.
