Kyiv figure skaters continue training despite air raid sirens

Young figure skating prospects in Kyiv are continuing their training sessions despite the constant threat of Russian missile attacks. Coaches and athletes must frequently interrupt practice to seek shelter when air raid sirens sound.

Coach Oleksandr Tumanovsky monitors warning maps on his phone to ensure children are moved to safety during missile threats. To mitigate the fear caused by loud explosions, coaches sometimes increase the music volume during practice.

Families have adapted to a difficult routine, often sleeping in underground parking lots or shelters to prepare for morning training sessions. Recently, a Russian night attack struck an ice rink, leaving a hole in the wall, though no casualties were reported. Despite the damage to the facility and the ongoing conflict, coaches and athletes remain determined to continue their pursuit of athletic goals.
