Kyiv suffers deadly Russian missile and drone barrage

A massive Russian aerial assault involving ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones targeted Kyiv and surrounding regions, resulting in at least 14 deaths and dozens of injuries.

In the capital, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that 12 people were killed, with seven deaths occurring in the Solomianskyi district. The strikes caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings, a school, a children’s hospital, and various warehouses. The attack also triggered widespread power outages, though the energy company DTEK reported restoring electricity to over 50% of affected households.

President Volodymyr Zelensky characterized the event as a coordinated attempt to inflict maximum damage on non-military targets. He highlighted Ukraine’s critical shortage of air defense interceptors, noting that the country has significantly fewer resources to counter ballistic missiles compared to previous years.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed the operation was a high-precision strike against military-related targets, including drone component manufacturing sites, ammunition depots, and logistics centers.
