Kyiv Mayor advises temporary relocation due to Russian attacks

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has advised residents of the Ukrainian capital to consider temporary relocation to areas outside the city, citing intensified Russian attacks on critical infrastructure. In interviews with news agencies including AFP, Klitschko stated that the situation has become a matter of survival due to ongoing strikes on energy, transport, and water systems.

Klitschko emphasized that he is not calling for a full evacuation of the city, noting that depopulating Ukrainian urban centers is a strategic objective of Vladimir Putin. Instead, he urged those with the means to stay with relatives or friends elsewhere to consider the option to mitigate the impact of the approaching winter.

City authorities are currently preparing for potential winter crises by stockpiling food, water, and fuel, and developing backup heating systems. However, the mayor warned that even with these preparations, the city remains highly vulnerable if air defense systems cannot successfully intercept ballistic missiles and drones targeting the power grid and essential services.
