Kyiv hit by Russian missile strikes, causing deaths and residential damage

Russian forces launched a massive missile strike against Kyiv in the early hours of August 20, utilizing ballistic missiles and Zircon cruise missiles. The attack resulted in multiple casualties, including at least two women killed and dozens injured.

In the Solomianskyi district, the strike caused the upper floors of a nine-story residential building to collapse and ignited fires. A pediatric hospital also sustained damage, with broken windows and vehicles on its grounds. Other districts, including Sviatoshynskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Darnytskyi, reported explosions and damage to non-residential buildings and warehouses.

Simultaneously, a large-scale power outage was reported across the occupied Crimean Peninsula, affecting major cities such as Simferopol, Sevastopol, Yalta, Kerch, and Feodosia. This energy collapse follows ongoing Ukrainian drone operations targeting critical infrastructure.

The escalation follows a Ukrainian strike on the Progress space center in Samara, Russia, which reportedly occurred on August 19.
