Kyle Efford medically retires from Georgia Tech football
Georgia Tech captain and All-ACC linebacker Kyle Efford has announced his medical retirement from football due to an accumulation of injuries. Efford, a senior and two-time captain, finished his career with 250 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 43 games. He had recently missed two games after re-injuring a surgically repaired shoulder.
Efford will remain with the Yellow Jackets for the remainder of the season in a player-coach capacity. Head coach Brent Key praised Efford as one of the best linebackers in program history and a vital leader for the team.
Following Efford's departure, players such as Cayman Spaulding and E. J. Lightsey are expected to take on increased roles within the Georgia Tech defense to address the loss of his presence on the field.
