Myles Garrett to undergo knee surgery and join Rams injured reserve

Los Angeles Rams star pass rusher Myles Garrett is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and will be placed on injured reserve. The move follows a difficult season debut in Melbourne, Australia, where the Rams lost 27-7 to the San Francisco 49ers. Garrett, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, recorded no tackles or sacks during the game and admitted he was focused more on staying healthy than on the opposing offense.

Garrett is expected to miss a minimum of four games, making him eligible to return in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals. The injury has significant implications for the Rams' defense, which was built around the pairing of Garrett and recently returned veteran Aaron Donald. The team had been managing Garrett's knee issues throughout training camp, but the condition required surgical intervention to prevent long-term complications.

Separately, it was reported that San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan signed a long-term contract extension this offseason, though the team had not previously announced the deal. Shanahan is currently in his tenth season with the franchise.
