Kyle Stjerne named new Palm Springs Police Chief

Palm Springs has appointed Deputy Police Chief Kyle Stjerne as the city’s next Chief of Police. Stjerne is scheduled to officially take over the position on Sept. 6, succeeding Chief Andy Mills, who is retiring on Sept. 5 after 48 years in law enforcement.

Stjerne joined the Palm Springs Police Department in 2002 and has held various roles, including detective sergeant, SWAT team leader, and lieutenant. Most recently, he has served as deputy chief, where he managed the department’s day-to-day operations and a $46 million budget. City Manager Scott Stiles noted that the selection followed an internal recruitment process and a community survey that received approximately 1,300 responses from residents.

Stjerne holds a degree from San Diego State University and has completed additional certifications through Harvard Business School Online and the Harvard Kennedy School. He is also a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police.
