Kyle Waldram jailed for drink-driving crash in Colwick

Kyle Waldram, 38, has been sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison following a drink-driving incident in Colwick that left a high-performance athlete with life-changing injuries. The collision occurred on February 27, 2024, on Racecourse Road when Waldram drove his van onto the wrong side of the road at speeds exceeding 50mph.

The victim, a young woman, was sitting on the pavement recovering from a run when she was struck. The impact caused devastating injuries to both of her legs, resulting in the amputation of one. Investigators determined that Waldram had been driving erratically and had consumed alcohol prior to the crash. Although Waldram claimed the victim was not visible due to darkness, police established that the sun was setting and a stationary person would have been clearly visible to a competent driver.

Waldram pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving without insurance. In addition to his prison sentence, he received a 47-month driving ban and must pass an extended driving test to regain his license in the future.
