Kyle William Spitze sentenced to 77 years for extremist online coercion

Kyle William Spitze, 27, has been sentenced to 77 years in federal prison for his involvement with nihilistic violent extremist groups known as Harm Nation and 764. Prosecutors stated that Spitze coerced at least 30 young people into performing acts of self-mutilation, abusing animals, or sending nude images through online networks that utilize threats, blackmail, and manipulation.

The Department of Justice described these groups as movements that aim to sow chaos and usher in societal downfall by glorifying mass murder and urging self-harm. Assistant Attorney General John A. Eisenberg noted that the sentence is the longest ever imposed on a nihilistic violent extremist, intended to signal that society will not tolerate such behavior.

Defense attorney Jonathan Cooper argued that Spitze joined these groups seeking validation and support unavailable from his parents, rather than for ideological reasons. Cooper contested the government's characterization of his client, describing him as a product of his environment.
