Kylian Mbappé becomes youngest player to reach 100 Champions League matches
Kylian Mbappé has become the youngest player in history to reach 100 appearances in the UEFA Champions League. The Real Madrid forward achieved the milestone at the age of 27 years and 298 days during a match against AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.
Mbappé surpassed the previous record held by Lionel Messi, who reached the 100-match mark at age 28 years and 84 days. Interestingly, Messi also achieved this feat against the same opponent, Roma, in September 2015.
During the match, which ended in a 4-3 victory for Real Madrid, Mbappé scored his 72nd Champions League goal. This goal moved him into fifth place on the competition’s all-time scoring list, overtaking former Madrid player Raúl González.
In a separate achievement, Erling Haaland of Manchester City also set a record by becoming the youngest player to reach 60 Champions League goals, reaching the mark at 26 years and 85 days.
