Kylian Mbappé questioned in French financial investigation
Kylian Mbappé and his mother, Fayza Lamari, have been questioned by French authorities as part of an expanding investigation into Mohamed Sanhadji, a former security staff member for the French national football team. The probe, conducted by the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), follows a report from the financial intelligence service Tracfin regarding unusual financial transactions.
Investigators are examining a transfer of 60,300 euros made to Sanhadji in 2023, which reportedly originated from Mbappé’s 2022 World Cup bonus. While Mbappé’s representatives stated the funds were gifts to show gratitude for the security staff's work, authorities are looking into potential undeclared labor and money laundering. The investigation also covers a trip to Cameroon taken by Mbappé and Sanhadji following the transfer.
Total payments made to five police officers and three private security representatives have reached 180,300 euros, raising concerns within the French Football Federation (FFF) regarding the use of official connections to settle personal matters.
