Kylian Mbappé reveals near-transfer to Liverpool in 2017

Kylian Mbappé has revealed that he was very close to joining Liverpool in 2017 while playing for AS Monaco. In an interview with The Athletic, the Real Madrid striker explained that his mother, Fayza Lamari, was a major proponent of the move due to her admiration for then-manager Jürgen Klopp.

Negotiations were extensive, involving a visit to Anfield and meetings with club officials. Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp recalled that the club went to great lengths to secure the deal, including arranging a private jet for the Mbappé family to fly in circles over France to maintain secrecy during discussions.

Despite the intense efforts from Liverpool, Mbappé ultimately decided to remain in France, choosing to join Paris Saint-Germain to play in his hometown of Paris. He noted that he did not want to leave his country before establishing himself as a major professional figure.

In separate comments, Mbappé also addressed transfer rumors regarding Michael Olise, stating it would be “disrespectful” to advise the Bayern Munich player to move to Real Madrid, while expressing his admiration for Klopp's recent appointment as the German national team coach.
