Kylian Mbappé scores double as France beats Iraq after storm‑delayed match

Kylian Mbappé netted two goals as France defeated Iraq 3‑0 in the Group I match of the 2026 World Cup. The victory secured France’s place in the round of 16. Mbappé’s second goal took his World Cup tally to 16, tying him with Miroslav Klose as the second‑most prolific scorer in tournament history.

The game was halted for more than two hours when an electrical storm forced spectators to seek shelter and the pitch to be cleared. Play resumed after the interruption, and France completed the win with a third goal from Ousmane Dembélé. The result also marked Mbappé’s 15th World Cup goal, achieved in his 100th international appearance for France.
