Kym Loader urges hospitals to provide cuddle cots after stillbirth loss

Kym Loader, a Central West resident, gave birth at 40 weeks to her first child, baby Sophia, who was stillborn. The hospital allowed her to keep Sophia for several hours before the infant was taken to the morgue. Loader was not offered a "cuddle cot" – a bassinet with a cooling system that can keep a deceased baby warm and still for a longer period – and says having one would have given her more time to grieve.

She has called for every hospital to have multiple cuddle cots, arguing that the equipment makes a significant difference in the grieving process for families after a stillbirth or early infant death.
