KYMCO denies technology sharing agreement with QJ Motor

Taiwanese manufacturer KYMCO has denied entering into any agreements with Chinese company QJ Motor to share its AK 550 technological platform. The clarification follows reports highlighting technical similarities between the new QJ Motor Fort 600 maxi-scooter and KYMCO’s AK 550.

KYMCO stated that it never authorized QJ Motor to use the platform developed for the AK 550, which involved significant investment and over 45 associated patents. Key proprietary technologies include a DOHC parallel twin-cylinder engine with a 270-degree crankshaft, a physical separation of the engine and transmission into two blocks, a multi-disc wet clutch, dry sump lubrication, and a specific aluminum frame architecture.

While KYMCO has not yet filed a formal accusation of plagiarism or intellectual property violation, the company intends to investigate production units of the Fort 600. Legal action may be considered if technical inspections confirm the unauthorized use of its technology.
