Kymi Sinfonietta sees record ticket sales amid funding uncertainty

Kymi Sinfonietta has reported record-breaking season ticket sales for its autumn season. In Kotka, the orchestra has 201 season ticket holders, while Kouvola has seen a 39 percent increase to 96 holders. Overall audience numbers also grew, with 21,788 listeners recorded in 2025, an 11 percent increase from the previous year.

Despite this growth in popularity and successful outreach programs in schools and hospitals, the orchestra faces an uncertain future. The city of Kouvola has repeatedly considered cutting or entirely removing its financial support for the ensemble. The potential termination of the agreement was included in a savings list prepared by city officials that was leaked in August.
