Kynšperk nad Ohří reopens historic wooden footbridge to pedestrians

Pedestrians have returned to the historic covered wooden footbridge in Kynšperk nad Ohří following a year of reconstruction. While the bridge is now open for walking, its official ceremonial opening has been postponed to September or October.

The project, which cost approximately 24 million CZK, faced a three-month delay due to prolonged frost, high water levels in the Ohře river, and necessary technological breaks. Despite the delay, Mayor Marek Matoušek confirmed the budget remained unchanged, with 4 million CZK provided by the Karlovarský kraj region as a subsidy.

Full access for cyclists and boaters is still pending as the contractor completes final tasks, including installing railings and finishing terrain adjustments. Currently, cyclists must either use a detour via a road bridge or dismount and walk across the structure. The 63-meter wooden bridge is noted for being the longest in the Czech Republic supported by only two pillars.
