Kyoto and Prague celebrate 30 years of sister city ties

Kyoto and Prague are marking the 30th anniversary of their sister city relationship, established in 1996. To commemorate this milestone, a lecture titled ‘Architecture of Prague and Kyoto: From Czech Cubism to Contemporary Architectural Thought’ will be held at the Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art on November 29, 2026. The event features academic experts from Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto Institute of Technology, and Kyoto University to explore the architectural and cultural connections between the two historic cities.

In a separate initiative for cultural support, real estate developer Pressance Co., Ltd. has donated 100 million yen to Kyoto Prefecture through the corporate version of the hometown tax system. This donation is intended to support regional revitalization and the development of young artists. Specifically, the funds will assist in the operation of the ‘Liminal Yoshikatsu Ikeuchi Exhibition,’ an art and music project held at the Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art in October.
