Kyoto City announces third round of subsidies for accommodation quality improvement

Kyoto City and the Kyoto City Tourism Association have announced a third round of applications for the “Accommodation Facility Quality Improvement (Enhancement of Acceptance Environment) Support Project Subsidy.” The initiative aims to promote tourism by supporting local accommodations in creating opportunities to experience Kyoto's charm and improving safety, comfort, and acceptance environments.

Eligible businesses must be licensed under the Hotel Business Act within Kyoto City, hold the “Kyoto Tourism Morals Promotion Declaration” certification, and demonstrate community contribution or membership in local neighborhood associations. The subsidy is available to facilities that have been in operation for at least five years as of April 1, 2026.

The program offers two main support categories:

Menu A provides up to 1 million yen for the purchase of equipment and activities, such as utilizing local products, disaster response strengthening, barrier-free improvements, and promoting tourism manners.

Menu B provides up to 10 million yen for interior and exterior renovations that utilize local products, such as traditional industrial products or timber from within the city. For small and medium-sized enterprises, the subsidy covers up to one-half of eligible expenses, while large enterprises can receive up to one-fourth.
