Kyoto City announces traditional craft workshops for children
Kyoto City and the Kyoto Traditional Industry Exchange Center have announced a series of traditional craft workshops for children titled “Experience, See, and Feel the Skills of Kyoto’s Artisans!” The initiative aims to foster the next generation of craft practitioners and users.
Supported by donations from the Nissin Electric Group Social Contribution Fund, the program includes sessions on Kyo-shippo (cloisonné) in September 2026 and metalwork (kazari-kanagu) in October 2026. Participants, primarily elementary and junior high school students, will engage in hands-on activities such as making pendants and silver rings under the guidance of professional artisans.
Additionally, Kyoto City is hosting a free workshop on September 12 to discuss the future role of Wings Kyoto, a gender equality center currently undergoing renewal, focusing on the connection between facilities and local parks.
