Kyoto City pilots digital school facility management

Kyoto City has launched a pilot research project to digitize the reservation and key management of school facilities at two municipal schools: Daigo Elementary School and Okazaki Junior High School. The initiative aims to reduce the administrative burden on teachers and improve convenience for community members using these spaces.

The project utilizes Space Market Inc.’s “Spacepad” reservation management system in conjunction with Kumahira’s “SPLATS KEY” cloud-based key management service. Under this new system, users can check availability and complete reservations online. Once approved, a QR code is issued, allowing users to access and return keys via a smart lock key box at the facility.

This digital transformation supports Kyoto City’s “School Community” initiative and prepares for the planned regional expansion of extracurricular club activities in September 2028. By automating manual processes like paper applications and physical key handovers, the city seeks to build a sustainable management model for opening school facilities to the public.
