Kyoto Daishoten G2 race approaches as autumn racing season begins
The autumn racing season at Tokyo and Kyoto racecourses is commencing, featuring key graded races that serve as precursors to the upcoming G1 series. On Sunday, the Kyoto Daishoten (G2) will be held at Kyoto Racecourse over 2400 meters on turf. This race is a significant stepping stone for middle-to-long distance runners, with the winner receiving priority entry into the Tenno Sho (Autumn).
Key contenders for the Kyoto Daishoten include the defending champion Deep Monster, an 8-year-old who recently placed third in the Champions & Chater Cup in Hong Kong. Other notable entrants include Hedentour, the winner of the 2025 Tenno Sho (Spring), making a return after a five-month hiatus, and Aqua Vernal, who has shown strong stamina in recent long-distance races.
Additionally, the Mainichi Okan (G2) will take place at Tokyo Racecourse, serving as another important preparatory race for the autumn season.
