Kyoto holds Gion Festival float order lottery and inclusive wind‑orchestra concert

On 2 July 2026, Kyoto city officials conducted a lottery ceremony at the city hall to determine the running order of the mountain floats for the pre‑festival (Sakimatsuri) of the Gion Matsuri. The draw decides which float will lead the procession on the 17 July celebration.

A day earlier, on 30 June 2026, the Kyoto wind‑orchestra group “Nobody Left Behind” staged a concert featuring about 100 musicians. The ensemble is designed to be fully inclusive, allowing participants in wheelchairs to stand up and sit down during performances. The group, founded four years ago, promotes accessibility and community involvement in the city’s cultural life.
