Kyoto Sangyo University upsets Mito HollyHock in Emperor's Cup
Kyoto Sangyo University pulled off a giant-killing victory against J1 club Mito HollyHock in the second round of the Emperor's Cup. The university side secured a 2-0 win at K's Denki Stadium Mito on August 26.
Hayato Senoo scored both goals for Kyoto Sangyo University. The first came in the 11th minute following an interception and through-ball from Shinnosuke Okino, where Senoo struck a long-range shot. Senoo added a second goal in the 61st minute with a diving header from a free kick delivered by Yuya Fukunaga.
Mito HollyHock, who fielded a lineup featuring several rookie players, was unable to respond despite late tactical changes. The defeat marks a significant upset in the tournament, as the university team advances to the third round.
