Kyoto students launch initiatives to promote regional revitalization

New initiatives are underway in Kyoto to foster regional engagement among university students. The ‘Keihanna Student Summit’ recently held its kickoff event at Keihanna Plaza in Seika, Kyoto. Organized by 13 universities and eight research institutions, including Kyoto University and Doshisha University, the summit provides a platform for students and graduate students to discuss the future of society and themselves using the Keihanna Science City as a theme.

In a separate effort to combat the outflow of young people from the prefecture, the second ‘Tyranno Jamboree in Kyoto Umekoji’ is scheduled for October 18, 2026, at Umekoji Park. This event, featuring participants in Tyrannosaurus Rex costumes, is student-led and aims to stimulate regional revitalization and encourage students to develop an interest in local community building. The organizers seek to foster connections between students and local businesses to promote long-term regional stability.
