Kyoto to host ‘Kyoto Film Month’ in December 2026

Kyoto Prefecture and Kyoto City have announced a joint initiative to designate December 2026 as ‘Kyoto Film Month’. The collaboration aims to promote the region's film culture and industry by integrating seven different film-related events hosted by government and private sectors.

The initiative seeks to revitalize Kyoto's reputation as a hub for cinema, drawing on its history as a major filming location. Scheduled events include the Kyoto Machinaka Film Festival, the Kyoto International Student Film Festival pre-event, the Kyoto Film Awards, and the Kyoto Historica International Film Festival, which focuses on historical films.

Other activities include the Uzumasa Jōraku Festival at Toei Kyoto Studio Park, film appreciation workshops for children, and the Kyoto Filmmakers Lab, a program designed to train the next generation of creators. The joint promotion will feature unified branding, including a common logo, shared promotional materials, and coordinated information dissemination via social media and public boards.
