Kyoto to host seasonal night-time cultural events at Higashi Honganji

Kyoto will host several seasonal night-time cultural events at the Higashi Honganji temple complex and surrounding areas.

From October 31 to December 6, 2026, Naked, Inc. will present ‘NAKED GARDEN NIGHTS Higashi Honganji/Shoseien.’ This event features light installations and digital art within the Higashi Honganji grounds and the Shoseien Japanese garden. Visitors can enjoy themed pairing drinks—available in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options—while exploring the illuminated landscapes. Special access to the upper floor of the Miegodo building will be available via limited tickets.

Additionally, the 17th Kyoto Night Market is scheduled for September 12–13, 2026, at the O-higashi-san Plaza in front of Higashi Honganji. The festival aims to engage three generations of families with over 90 stalls, including food, crafts, and workshops. The event will feature performances such as ninja shows and street arts, alongside a special cultural exchange with the Miyajima Night Market, offering traditional Hiroshima crafts and sweets.
