Kypseli subsidence: Expert report submitted to Athens Prosecutor

Athens Mayor Haris Doukas has submitted an expert report to the Athens Prosecutor regarding severe structural damage and ground subsidence in the Kypseli district. The report, prepared by independent technical consultants Nikolaos Krasakis and Dimitrios Kaliambakos, links the damage to tunnel boring machine (TBM) activities during the construction of Metro Line 4.

Key findings indicate that subsidence levels have reached up to 55 millimeters, which is nearly four times the established safety limit of 15 millimeters. Additionally, the report notes that building tilting values have exceeded predicted alarm limits by up to two times.

The assessment categorized the risk levels of 14 inspected buildings: five were identified as high risk (red), three as medium risk (yellow), and only three remained in the low risk (green) category. Doukas criticized Elliniko Metro for providing incomplete data, noting that while the company's records cover only 14 buildings, an estimated 24 buildings in the area have been affected. A preliminary investigation by the Prosecutor is currently underway, and the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) is expected to conduct its own expertise assessment within the week.
