Kypseli building damage sparks accountability demands over Metro Line 4 construction

The Infrastructure and Transport Sector of ELLAS has raised serious questions regarding the management of building damages in the Kypseli district of Athens, caused by construction work on Metro Line 4.

The controversy stems from a May 6, 2026, letter from Elliniko Metro, which reportedly contradicts previous government statements. ELLAS alleges that while the company initially attributed responsibility to the construction consortium in May, it later shifted the cause to geological soil conditions in July.

According to the announcement, the public company recorded damage and alarm limit exceedances in 18 out of 24 buildings within the affected zone. ELLAS is demanding answers from the government regarding when authorities were informed, the true extent of the damage, and why residents were told the situation was under control while significant structural issues were being documented.
