Two-year-old twins of Congolese origin were found alone in an unsecured apartment in the Kypseli neighborhood of Athens. The situation was discovered by a local resident who noticed the children, a boy and a girl, at a first-floor window on Tinou Street and alerted the authorities.

Police arrived to find the apartment unsecured and the living conditions deemed unsuitable for the safety of the minors. The children were subsequently transferred to Aglaia Kyriakou Children's Hospital for medical evaluations and health assessments.

The children's 27-year-old mother appeared at the police station on Friday seeking the twins. She was arrested on charges of child endangerment.
