Kypseli: Repairs to begin on apartments damaged by metro tunneling

Repairs are set to begin on residential apartments in the Kypseli district of Athens that were damaged by the passage of a metro tunneling machine (metropontika). Following reports from the Technical Chamber of Greece, which identified 20 buildings within the impact zone requiring attention, the construction consortium has mobilized specialized crews to start immediate interventions.

The AVAX-GHELLA-ALSTOM consortium has committed to covering all restoration costs as part of its contractual obligations. Since May, the consortium has already repaired 18 apartments across three buildings, addressing issues such as masonry cracks and equipment damage along the axis from Kypseli Square and Spetson Street to Zakynthou Street.

Engineers from Elliniko Metro and the contractor are working to coordinate with residents to facilitate access to damaged properties. However, officials noted that a significant number of apartments remain closed, which complicates the communication and repair process. The interventions aim to improve the structural safety of these buildings, many of which are older constructions.
