Kypseli apartments to undergo repairs following Metro construction damage
Repairs are set to begin for apartments in the Kypseli district of Athens that sustained damage during the construction of Metro Line 4. Following reports from the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), which identified 20 buildings within the impact zone requiring attention, a specialized three-member committee—comprising a company engineer, a TEE expert, and a residents' representative—will conduct final damage assessments.
The construction consortium, AVAX-GHELLA-ALSTOM, has committed to covering all repair costs as part of its contractual obligations. Since May, the consortium has already repaired 18 apartments in three buildings, addressing issues such as wall cracks and equipment joint damage. Engineers from Elliniko Metro and the contractor are working to inform residents, as many apartments remain closed, complicating access.
Athens Mayor Haris Doukas has called for individualized restoration studies and binding timelines for each building. While one building has been flagged as ‘red’ following static adequacy checks, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Nikos Tachiaos stated in Parliament that no official expert report has yet mandated the evacuation of residents. The government emphasized that the consortium will manage any necessary resident relocations during technical works.
