Kypseli residents assured of safety amid Metro Line 4 construction damage

Greek Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Nikos Tachiaos has assured residents of Kypseli that the cracks and subsidences observed in apartment buildings due to the construction of Athens Metro Line 4 do not pose a safety risk. He clarified that the “yellow” and “red” designations applied to certain buildings are internal technical classifications used in vulnerability studies by the contractor and do not signify the same level of danger as classifications used following natural disasters like earthquakes.

Tachiaos emphasized that there is no need for residents to evacuate their homes. He further committed that the project contractor will fully cover the costs of all necessary repairs, ensuring no financial burden falls on the affected residents. The ministry is monitoring the situation with real-time measurements to manage the impact of the tunnel boring process.
