Kypseli residents win court order for Metro technical documents

The Athens Court of First Instance has granted a temporary injunction requested by residents of the Kypseli neighborhood. The ruling compels Elliniko Metro and the construction consortium responsible for Athens Metro Line 4 to disclose all technical documents, expert reports, and geological studies regarding structural damage in the area.

Residents claim that the tunnel excavation has caused significant subsidence and cracks in at least 14 buildings. Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) interim reports have indicated a reduction in the resistance of concrete and masonry in several affected structures. Expert Dimitris Kaliampakos, representing the Municipality of Athens, testified that the subsidence issues require urgent restoration to ensure resident safety.

In response, Line 4 deputy manager Konstantinos Kitsos argued that subsidence has stabilized and is currently at zero, noting that TEE reports are interim and not final. Additionally, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Nikos Tachiaos suggested that certain political motives might be attempting to manipulate the residents' anxiety, while maintaining that the contractor, not the state, bears responsibility for repairs.
