Kyrgyzstan aims to become energy exporter via Kambar-Ata 1 dam

Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Caparov announced that the completion of the Kambar-Ata 1 hydroelectric power plant will enable the country to close its energy deficit and transition into an electricity exporter. Caparov stated that this project would contribute to the energy stability of the entire Central Asian region.

During a speech in Talas marking Independence Day, Caparov highlighted significant economic achievements, noting that the national economy has seen an average annual growth of 10.2% over the last four years. He reported that GDP grew by 11.1% in the first seven months of 2026. He also mentioned that international credit rating agencies raised Kyrgyzstan’s credit rating to a ‘+’ level for 2025, supported by increased gold reserves and a strengthened consolidated budget.

Regarding infrastructure, Caparov emphasized the strategic importance of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, which he said would transform the country into a major international logistics hub. He also noted the completion of the Balyshky-Kochkor railway and ongoing modernization of the nation’s airports and road networks.
