Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan satellites reach orbit via SpaceX

Two Central Asian spacecraft were successfully launched into orbit aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on October 1. The launch, part of the Transporter-18 rideshare mission, originated from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

Kyrgyzstan’s first national satellite, weighing approximately five kilograms, is designed for Earth observation. Controlled from Bishkek, the satellite will monitor agriculture, water resources, glaciers, forests, and pastures. The data is intended to assist in the early detection of natural hazards such as droughts, floods, landslides, and forest fires, and will eventually be integrated into government digital systems for decision-making and spatial mapping.

The second spacecraft, the NIS PocketQube, is an educational project from Kazakhstan. Developed by students and engineers at the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools (NIS) network, the 5x5x5 centimeter cube was designed to provide telemetry data for research and engineering projects through a dedicated ground station. Kazakhstan aims to expand its space presence by establishing an international Earth-observation constellation by 2030.
