Kyriakos Mitsotakis considers financial aid for Greek fishermen
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced that the government is considering additional financial assistance for professional fishermen. This statement followed a meeting between Mitsotakis and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda at the Maximos Mansion.
The announcement comes amid ongoing protests by fishing professionals. While officials noted that specific demands regarding fuel costs and economic support fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the government has pledged to evaluate potential interventions to support the sector.
During his discussions with President Nausėda, Mitsotakis also emphasized the need for greater fiscal flexibility at the European level to allow member states to support households and businesses. He further addressed European defense programs, noting that access to European resources must be subject to specific conditions.
