Kyriakos Mitsotakis meets Egyptian and Cypriot leaders in El Alamein

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulides in El Alamein to reinforce strategic ties in the Eastern Mediterranean. The meetings included a bilateral session between Greece and Egypt, followed by an informal trilateral meeting between the leaders of Greece, Egypt, and Cyprus.

During the discussions, Mitsotakis emphasized Greece's role as a “bridge” between Europe, the Middle East, and the Gulf states. He addressed regional shifts, including potential rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Turkey, noting that such developments do not alter Greece's core foreign policy priorities.

The leaders issued a joint declaration emphasizing international law. Mitsotakis underscored that while Greece seeks stability through functional neighborly relations, stability does not imply “submissiveness or tolerance of fait accompli.” He specifically highlighted the importance of maritime boundary delimitation through dialogue and respect for sovereign rights, referencing the 2020 Greece-Egypt maritime agreement.
